Around Whidbey
Whidbey Island is an incredibly special place – so, get exploring! We’ve got all the recs, whether you're looking to stay close to the venue or venture out.
Closer to Home
Captain Whidbey is near Ebey’s Landing and Fort Ebey State Park. Ebey’s Landing is our favorite hike on the island – and was Piper June's first hike ever. Pack a couple of beers and stop for a toast at the top. Both spots have great views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic Mountains and you might see a whale!
If you get snacky or want to do some shopping, head to Coupeville, where you can find the historic wharf, Abby’s favorite bookstore outside of Seattle, and great coffee and pastries at Little Red Hen.
For lunch, head to Molka Xete or Sunshine Drip (though you really can’t go wrong with any spot in Coupeville).
Around the Island
Whidbey is the largest island in the state of Washington and is about 55 miles long by road. This is why we recommend bringing a car – you’ll have more freedom to explore the whole island!
Spring is perfect for whale-watching because gray whales are migrating and in the mix with the regular cast of orcas, humpbacks, minkes, and other whales. Whale-watching tours launch from Anacortes on Fidalgo Island, which is a 45-minute drive north from Captain Whidbey. Try Island Adventures for a tour!
On the south end of the island, on your way to and from the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry, you’ll find Langley, an artsy little town with galleries, antiquing, boutiques, and great restaurants. If you can get a table, stop by Saltwater Fish House for oysters and a lobster roll. Even further south, in Clinton, you can grab a bagel right before hopping on the ferry at Whidbey Island Bagel Factory.
On the north end of the island, Deception Pass State Park is truly epic and worth a stop to see the iconic bridge and explore the coves and cliffs. For the best view of the bridge, take a short hike to north beach and snap a pic. If you have a few hours to spare, book a marine adventure through the pass with Anacortes Kayak Tours.
Venture Out
